Mangaluru: Bharat Kumdelu, wanted by the police in several cases, including the murder of Abdul Rahman in May 2025 under Bantwal City Police Station limits and the murder of Ashraf Kalai in 2017, has surrendered before the court. The District and Sessions Court in Mangaluru, after his surrender, remanded him in judicial custody until October 25, 2025. Kumdelu had been absconding for several years.

Key Cases Registered Against Bharat Kumdelu: Several serious cases have been registered against Bharat Kumdelu, who is now in judicial custody, primarily in Bantwal and Puttur jurisdictions. The notable cases include:

  • Murder Case: A case was registered in 2017 at Bantwal City Police Station for the murder of Ashraf Kalai and related offenses.
  • Attempt to Murder and Assault: Cases involving attempt to murder, grievous assault, and obstruction of government officials' duties were registered at Bantwal Rural Police Station in 2012, 2015, and 2017.
  • Assault and Threat to Life: Between 2006 and 2013, multiple cases of assault, use of deadly weapons, life threats, land encroachment, and rioting were registered at Bantwal Rural Police Station.
  • SC/ST Prevention of Atrocities Act Case: In 2023, a case was registered at Uppinangady Police Station under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, along with charges of land encroachment and assault.
