A member of the notorious Garuda gang, who had been absconding for the last seven months without attending trial, has been arrested by Kapu police in Chikkamagaluru.
The arrested accused is Mohammed Asif (35), a resident of Kundapur. He had several cases registered against him in Kapu police station and had stopped appearing before the Udupi second additional district and sessions court since February 2025. He was also not found at his given address.
In addition to Kapu police station, four cases were registered against him at Gangolli police station, and two cases each at Byndoor police station, Mangaluru Kankanady police station, and Uppinangady police station.
On September 18, Kapu police staff members Mohammed Rafeeq, Mohan Chandra, and Ganesh Shetty tracked him down near Gauri Kaluve in Chikkamagaluru and arrested him. He was produced before the second additional district and sessions court in Udupi, which has remanded him to judicial custody until October 16. He has now been lodged in Hiriyadka district prison.
