New Delhi: A 13-year-old Afghan boy's curiosity led him to stow away in the landing gear compartment of a KAM Air flight from Kabul, landing at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport, official sources reported on Monday.
The incident occurred around 11:00 AM on Sunday when KAM Air flight RQ-4401 arrived at IGI Airport after a two-hour journey from Kabul. The boy, a native of Kunduz city, was spotted wandering near the aircraft in a restricted area after it landed. He was apprehended by airline personnel and handed over to the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) at Terminal 3 for questioning.
During questioning, the boy revealed that he had sneaked past security at Kabul's Hamid Karzai International Airport and entered the rear central landing gear compartment of the aircraft out of curiosity. Security officials from KAM Air conducted a thorough inspection of the landing gear compartment and found a small red-colored speaker, believed to belong to the boy. After comprehensive anti-sabotage checks, the aircraft was declared safe.
The teenager was questioned by authorities and deemed not to pose a security threat. He was repatriated to Afghanistan on the same flight (RQ-4402), which departed Delhi around 12:30 PM on Sunday.
