Mangaluru: Shammaz (19), a student of St. Aloysius College who had been in a brain-dead state after sustaining severe injuries in a tragedy at the Rama Lakshminarayana Convention Hall in Emmekere, passed away late Saturday night despite medical efforts.
The incident occurred when the parapet wall of the hall's balcony suddenly collapsed during the investiture ceremony of the student council. Five students standing near the wall fell and sustained injuries.
The injured were immediately admitted to a private hospital for emergency treatment. However, Shammaz, who had suffered severe head trauma, was declared brain-dead on Saturday night. Despite continuous medical treatment and the absence of any signs of recovery, he eventually succumbed to his injuries.
FIR against organizers and owner:
A case has been registered against the event organizers and the building owner based on a complaint filed by the deceased student's father. The police have initiated an investigation, charging them with negligence resulting in death.
