Conspirator backed out after a change of heart following the birth of his child
Mangaluru: The Bajpe police in Mangaluru have uncovered a major conspiracy to murder an individual in retaliation for the killing of rowdy-sheeter Suhas Shetty. A case has been registered against several accused, including Sudeep from Udupi.
According to the details in the FIR, Sudeep and Mahesh from Udupi were the masterminds behind the murder plot. Young men were instigated to kill a Muslim individual to avenge Suhas Shetty's murder. The FIR states that a contract sum of ₹24 lakh was offered for the act, along with promises of monthly provisions worth ₹5,000 and ₹15,000 for household expenses to their families should they end up in jail.
The complainant, Abhishek, and his friend Keerthan had traveled in a Scorpio car to hold conspiracy meetings near Triveni Hotel in Udupi and Athur Church in Karkala. Information regarding the target's movements was gathered based on a photograph of a man from Kinnipadavu, Bajpe (Mangaluru), which Sudeep had sent via WhatsApp. Arrangements for the murder included contacting a person named Chintan from Sullia and preparing two *talwars* (swords) kept at the house.
As the conspiracy reached its final stages, the complainant, Abhishek, had a change of heart following the birth of his child. Fearing imprisonment if the crime were committed, he decided to abandon the plan. However, the accused—Sudeep and Mahesh—had criminal backgrounds and persistently pressured him via WhatsApp to carry out the act. Intimidated by this, Abhishek approached the Bajpe police station and filed a complaint against Sudeep and the others.
The Bajpe police have registered a case and intensified the investigation, securing WhatsApp chats and screenshots as evidence.
