Kyiv, October 8, 2025:Ukraine’s military has reportedly captured a 22-year-old Indian citizen who was fighting for Russia’s army. The Indian government has not yet confirmed the arrest and is verifying reports from Ukrainian media that identified the man as Sahil Mohammad Hussain Majothi, a resident of Morbi, Gujarat.
“We are checking the authenticity of the report. There has been no official communication from the Ukrainian side so far,” sources from India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) told NDTV.
According to a report by The Kyiv Independent, Hussain had gone to Russia to study at a university but was later recruited into the Russian military to fight against Ukraine.
A video released by Ukraine’s 63rd Mechanized Brigade shows Hussain in custody. In the footage, he claims he was jailed in Russia on drug-related charges and was offered a chance to join the Russian army to reduce his prison sentence.
Indian authorities are in contact with Ukrainian officials to confirm the details and ensure the citizen’s safety.
