Udupi: Social activist Idris Hoode said that Mahatma Gandhiji tried to improve the living standards of the poor, farmers, and rural people by spreading ideas to empower them.
He was speaking at a Gandhi Jayanti program organized by the Shirva Gramin Congress.
Gandhiji showed the ways to empower villages. But current governments are handing over villages to the rich. He said that by ignoring Gandhi's ideas, which stood for the farmers, today's governments are introducing anti-farmer laws. Gandhiji tried to empower workers, but today, anti-labor laws are being introduced.
Gandhiji created an India that was inclusive of all. But today, his ideals are being forgotten, and a policy of division is being introduced. Lies are being spread about Gandhiji through WhatsApp University. However, the world's great leaders have accepted and praised Gandhiji's values and ideas.
Gandhi, who stood up for the untouchables, also hosted a dinner for them and gave them moral support, saying that they were one of us. Gandhi is not just a person; he is a movement. When we identify ourselves, we identify as followers of the Gandhian way. This shows the relevance of Gandhi. He said that if there is any world guru in India, it is Gandhiji.
M.A. Gafoor, who was elected as the new Chairman of the Coastal Development Authority, was felicitated at the event.
