Hyderabad: Authorities in Hyderabad covered several mosques with white cloth during the Durga idol immersion procession on Saturday to prevent any untoward incidents. Mosques in Afzalgunj, Pathergatti, Siddiamber Bazaar, and Moazzam Jahi Market areas were temporarily covered as a safety measure.
Officials said this precaution was taken to maintain peace during the immersion. Security was tightened across the city, especially in the old city area where around 200 Durga idols were installed this year. Police forces were deployed along all major procession routes.
Senior police officers met local SHOs to review security arrangements and ensure the smooth flow of the procession. This is not the first time such a step has been taken. During Ganesh idol immersion in September and Ramanavami processions last year, mosques along the routes were also covered with white cloth. Similarly, in Shahjahanpur, Uttar Pradesh, local authorities covered around 70 mosques before Holi celebrations as a precaution after discussions with religious leaders
