Mangaluru, Oct 5: In a major breakthrough, Mulki police have arrested Srinivas Shetty alias Sheenu, an associate of the underworld figure Kali Yogesh, who had been absconding for the past eight years.

The accused, identified as Srinivas alias Sheenu (45), son of late Krishna Shetty, a resident of Chitrapu village in Mulki taluk, was wanted in connection with Crime No. 155/2017 registered at the Mulki Police Station under the Mangaluru City Commissionerate limits. He was also an accused in a case under the Karnataka Control of Organised Crimes Act (KCOCA).

Reports indicate that the accused had been evading arrest and failing to appear before the court for eight years. The principal district and sessions court, Mysuru, had issued a warrant and proclamation against him.

Acting on credible information, a special police team was formed under the guidance of assistant commissioner of police Srikant (Panambur sub-division) and the leadership of police inspector Manjunath B S and sub-inspector Umesh Kumar M N. The team, comprising ASI Suresh Kundar and head constable Uday, gathered intelligence on the accused’s whereabouts.

After confirming that Srinivas Shetty was hiding in Mumbai, the team successfully traced and arrested him. He was produced before the court on October 4, where the judge remanded him to judicial custody.

Police sources stated that the arrest marks a significant step in cracking down on associates linked to the underworld network operating in coastal Karnataka.
