Bengaluru: Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s son and MLC Yathindra Siddaramaiah on Wednesday clarified that there will be no leadership change in the state.
“Our high command has made it clear that there is no change in leadership in Karnataka. Whenever elections approach, the BJP claims there will be a leadership change, but we know the reality within our party,” said Yathindra.
Earlier, Yathindra had stated that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah was nearing the end of his political career and suggested that Minister for PWD Satish Jarkiholi could take up his father’s role.
“There is no discussion of a leadership change in the state. Our high command has repeatedly clarified this,” Yathindra reiterated.
He added that all discussions regarding a leadership change are speculative, noting that Congress General Secretary Randeep Singh Surjewala has also confirmed there will be no change in the state’s leadership.
Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar urged party workers to remain dedicated to the party, emphasizing that the leadership has not permitted any room for groupism or internal politics.
“If I wanted to engage in groupism, I could have done so, but there is no value in such politics,” he said.
Earlier, Yathindra’s statement sparked debate in state political circles, as Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has consistently maintained that he will complete his full term and lead the party in the next assembly election.
However, some Congress MLAs and supporters argue that Shivakumar should be given the opportunity to become Chief Minister, citing his significant contributions to the party.
