Bantwal, Oct 31: The body of an auto-rickshaw driver who went missing after parking his vehicle on the old Panemangalore bridge on Wednesday morning was found near Thumbay Kindi vented dam on Thursday.
The deceased has been identified as Peter Lobo (52), a resident of Marnabailu in Sajipamunnur. According to his wife, Anita Lobo, Peter was suffering from paralysis and had been depressed. In her statement to the police, she said he had decided to end his life as he did not want to become a burden on anyone.
On October 29, at around 5:10 am, Peter left home in his auto-rickshaw, stopped it on the bridge, and jumped into the river. Despite extensive searches by local swimmers and the Bantwal fire and rescue team throughout the day, he could not be traced. His body was recovered on Thursday during continued search operations.
A case has been registered at Bantwal Town police station.
