Shyamaraj Birti, coordinator of the Mysore division of the Karnataka Dalit Sangharsh Samiti (R) Ambedkar Vad, strongly condemned the act of a lawyer attempting to throw a shoe at Chief Justice B.R. Gavai during Supreme Court proceedings today, calling it deplorable.
"This is an attack on the Constitution of India," Birti stated. He claimed that certain Sanatanis, who opposed the Constitution at the time of India’s independence, are now promoting Manusmriti as an alternative. "These Hindutva proponents repeatedly engage in such despicable acts," he added, accusing them of being ideological descendants of those who assassinated Mahatma Gandhi, the non-violent leader who contributed to India’s independence.
Birti asserted that the incident reflects a deep-seated prejudice against a Dalit occupying the position of Chief Justice and administering justice. "This legalistic mentality will never accept a Dalit in such a role," he said, condemning the act as a manifestation of the "filthy inner nature and vile culture" of those who idolize Godse.
He urged authorities to arrest those responsible under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and punish them for attacking the aspirations of the Constitution. Birti emphasized that such actions by Hindutva and Sanatani proponents, who claim to uphold India’s history, culture, tradition, and heritage, are traitorous and must face strict consequences.
