Bengaluru: A low-pressure system in the Bay of Bengal has intensified into a depression, causing heavy rainfall in Karnataka's coastal areas. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning for heavy rain and strong winds across Karnataka starting today.

Heavy rainfall is expected to increase in the coastal districts of Mangaluru, Belagavi, Kalaburagi, Bagalkot, Shivamogga, Udupi, Yadgir, Vijayapura, and Bidar. The IMD predicts that rains will continue across Karnataka for the next six days, with the possibility of heavy rain and thunderstorms in some areas today.

There is a potential for cyclonic conditions with heavy rain and strong winds in coastal Karnataka today. Winds of 50–60 kmph are expected in Mangaluru and surrounding areas, and fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea.

From September 30 to October 4, the intensity of the weather system, named Varuna, is expected to decrease slightly, bringing scattered rainfall. Light rain and cloudy weather will persist in Uttara Kannada, Udupi, and Dakshina Kannada districts.
