Karwar: In the wake of the monsoon, District Natural Disaster Management Committee Chairperson and District Commissioner K. Lakshmi Priya has issued an order to strictly prohibit water adventure sports in rivers, river backwaters, islands and seas to protect the lives of people and tourists.
In the wake of the current year's monsoon, boating and water adventure sports for tourists on the beaches and riverbanks of Uttara Kannada district have been banned from June 1 to August 31 under Sections 33 and 34 of the Natural Disaster Management Act.
Water adventure sports like rafting in the Kali river, boating in the backwaters of the river, scuba diving in the middle of the river, underwater water adventure, boat skiing, banana boat, kayaking etc. have been banned for three months. The District Collector has warned of legal action against those who violate it.
The Assistant Commissioners, Tahsildars and Gram Panchayat PAOs of the respective divisions should ensure that water adventure sports are not conducted during the rainy season. The responsibility of strictly implementing the water adventure sports ban order lies with the officials. The safety of the lives of tourists is also the responsibility of the district administration, and a written order has been issued to implement the order from June 1.
