Satish Shah, beloved 'Sarabhai vs Sarabhai' actor, passes away due to kidney failure


The celebrated Indian film and television actor Satish Shah has passed away at the age of 74 due to kidney failure on Saturday, October 25, 2025. He was admitted to Hinduja Hospital in Mumbai after his health deteriorated. 

A distinguished career


Television: Shah was a beloved face on Indian television, known for his comic timing and versatile roles. He gained immense popularity for his role as Indravadan Sarabhai in the cult sitcom Sarabhai vs Sarabhai. He also played 55 different characters in the 1984 sitcom Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi. Other notable TV shows include Filmi Chakkar and Ghar Jamai.

Film: With a career spanning over four decades, Shah appeared in more than 250 feature films. His most memorable film role was as the corpse of Municipal Commissioner D'Mello in the 1983 cult comedy Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro. He was also known for his parts in major Bollywood hits such as Main Hoon Na, Kal Ho Naa Ho, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, and Fanaa.

Judicial roles: He also served as a judge on the reality show Comedy Circus.
