Bengaluru: A 30-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly strangling his seven-year-old stepdaughter to death at a residence in Kannika Layout on October 24.

Darshan was arrested by the Kumbalagodu police on Monday (October 27). The victim was a Class 2 student at Siri Government School. Darshan had married Shilpa, who was estranged from her husband, after meeting her on social media four months ago.

On Friday evening, her mother, who had gone to work, had not yet returned home. So, instead of going home from school, the girl stopped at an acquaintance's shop. Darshan, who was at home at the time, came looking for the girl.

When Siri, who was near the shop, was called home, she insisted that she would not come home. She had told everyone in front of her that he would beat her. However, Darshan forcibly brought the girl home.

He washed away all the blood stains to destroy the evidence. Later, Darshan told the girl's mother, Shilpa, who came home, that the child was not talking. She screamed when she saw her child's condition. Meanwhile, Darshan, who had locked Shilpa in the room and fled on a bike, has now been caught by the Kumbalagodu police.

After analysing CCTV footage and evidence, the accused was traced and taken into custody in Tumkur district, police said. It is reported that he killed her, thinking that she was interfering in the couple's life.
